Reintroducing Me — and the Mission Behind Golf Casuals

Hey, I’m Chelsea — founder of Golf Casuals, former D3 athlete, sarcasm queen, and your go-to girl for unapologetically showing up on the course as you are.
If you're new here (or just need a refresher), Golf Casuals started as more than a brand. It was born out of a truth I couldn’t ignore: women in golf are constantly underestimated, over-edited, or made to feel like they have to fit a certain mold — look a certain way, swing a certain way, dress a certain way.
I call BS.
We don’t all have the same body type. Or swing. Or budget for new gear. But we love the game — and that’s what unites us.
My Origin Story (aka How I Accidentally Became a Golfer)
As a kid, I tried just about every sport. You name it, I probably gave it a shot — with the very intentional exception of soccer (I do not run for fun). I loved my time as a libero in volleyball, and even turned down a chance to play for Sky High Club Volleyball so I could keep skiing every weekend — eventually becoming a ski instructor (no surprise I became a classroom teacher, right?). I swam year-round for both club and high school teams, played softball all four years of high school, and squeezed in tennis lessons and intense family doubles matches.
Golf? Not on the radar.
No one in my family really played — unless you count the occasional round my dad played with buddies. But when my high school swim coaches moved on and a not-so-friendly new coach was set to take over, I needed a new game plan. My friends and I got strategic: if I didn’t pick up another sport, I’d have to take gym class. So... what sport could I kind of fake, based on my background? With a little softball and tennis coordination, and a dusty set of Wilson clubs in the garage (thanks, Mom), we landed on golf.
I picked up a club the day before tryouts. Took a swing — no clue what I was doing.
I just knew I needed to keep my score low — and that yes, whiffs do count. I found out on the 9th hole that you can’t ground your club in the sand. Lesson learned.
My golf origin story is weird, scrappy, and a little chaotic. But over time, I fell in love with the game. Friendships helped fuel that passion (yes, even the ex-boyfriend kind), and eventually, I earned a spot on the inaugural varsity women’s team at Denison University — where I ended my career as the first female golfer in school history to make All-NCAC Second Team.
I didn’t plan on falling in love with golf. But here we are.
What Golf Casuals Is Really About
Golf Casuals is for every woman who ever wondered if she belonged on the course — and decided to show up anyway. It’s for the girl with the thrifted polo, the perfect playlist, and the slightly sarcastic response to unsolicited swing advice. It’s for every body, every background, and every reason why you picked up a club in the first place.
It’s not about being the best. It’s about being yourself — confidently, casually, and completely welcome in this sport.
So whether you’re new here, coming back, or just clicking around — I’m glad you’re here. You belong.
Let’s tee it up,
Chelsea
